    Critique/advice needed

Last comment 112 days ago by stevebalistreri 10

Here is an idea for a barrel print design. I'm mostly looking for advice on colors, but any other advice is appreciated. The print would be all one color. I was thinking khaki print over navy blue shirt, or turquise/cyan print on dark blue, dark grey print on a red shirt. I don't have photoshop so I can't open the color file in the template right now, but I will when I'm at school next week. Let me know what you all think. Thanks.

Anyone? It would be nice to get some feedback before my class tomorrow.

Do you know a sweet tip that I got from Joshua Davis for developing color schemes?(http://www.joshuadavis.com/). I'll tall ya. Take a photo, bring it into photoshop and save it out as 4 to 8 color gif. The colors from that gif would be your color palette. I'd say for this shirt khaki and blue would work nicely. The flowers from the gun is very Shepard Fairey. Where'd you get the idea for the bird? Did you look at a photo while you were in illustrator? I hope class goes well.

The level of detail is AWESOME. Very ornate.

However, I don't like how the concept translates to an all over belt print. Maybe the design would look good if the pattern were just repeated three times in a vertical or diagonal line.

Or maybe just enlarge the main factory/gun/flower section with the 6 birds around it and do a center chest print?

Thanks for the tips. I'll try doing it centered, and as a line across the shirt and upload another picture.

Just curious, what was your motivation and inspiration while making this?

The flowers in the guns was from a documentary I saw about the 60's where protestors were putting flowers in the barrels of the police's rifles. The dove and the leaf are symbols of peace and nature, while the factory and gear are more about industrialization and gears of war. I didn't have a specific message while I was working on it, I just wanted to try juxtapozing the different symbols.

I would actually love to use this as a wallpaper in our shipping room.

I think this would actually look pretty sweet as an all over bandana print. What you think Steve-o?

You guys do bandanas? I like your idea, a twist on the usual bandana theme. What color combo do you think would look best, the traditional red and white?
