Being fascinated with the japanese love of monsters destroying cities I wanted to create one where the monster is just a big lost and confused awkward thing. However, due to his size the city still freaks out.
-by the way his name is short for My immortal

It's going to be asked sooner or later. What does the writing mean?
Nice design.

I will reveal one of the word bubbles as soon as we are at 100 support :P

Because of stuff like this...
http://engrishfunny.com/
...I don't want anything written on a shirt that I don't know exactly what it says. Now, that's just me. When I saw the design I thought the monster was cute. But the "unknown" words give me pause.
Anyway, yours isn't the only design here that I refuse to support because of unknown writing.

harsh, what can I say, if it's not for you it's not for you. I find type in other languages beautiful and used it along with the speech bubbles to create a unified design with the full flavor I was looking for.
My neighbor from Japan was kind enough to translate for me as well as making it read with a "fun/playful" tone.
Posted by the_jcw (The Artist) 474 days ago
Right. It's just not "for me". When my children get around to checking out the designs again, one of them may well like it. I won't prevent them from supporting it. I've just had one too many "friends" that would tell me with a straight face, "Oh, it's perfectly innocent..." Not that anyone here would intentionally do that. ;)
If you don't plan a big reveal until fully supported, it's your baby.

From Masahiro:
?"we must run away"
逃げたほうがいいって
?"very long legs"
足長いねー
?"what big toes"
足の指もでかいねー
?"what is happening".
えー、これ何?
All are pretty much direct translations with a tone of youthful disengagements.
As you can see, what it says is fun but it's not about what the bubbles say it is about liking the characters in the speech bubbles as part of the design.

I was intending to not comment further, but here goes...
I'm glad other people like it. It's just not for me.
It isn't that I don't like your design. Matter of fact, I've purchased three "Day of Bad Rain" shirts. Teen age daughter LOVES to wear hers.
Last week, shortly after I had responded (with the comment that starts "Right"), Hubby walked in. As I started to explain to him about the design and my feelings on it, he told me about something he had seen in person. A Japanese admiral came on their submarine, pointed at a sailor's shirt (off-duty clothing), and asked, "You allow THAT in your Navy?"
Their captain explained that the sailor had been told it said "thank the Navy". That was NOT what it said.
Hubby's mother is Japanese. My MIL doesn't live close and hasn't been for a visit recently. I usually direct questions about Japanese grammar to her. Hubby doesn't remember enough to read the language any more, but he can follow a conversation not filled with slang.

Like I said before, it's not about the importance of the type and what is written, it is merely an intended aesthetic of using the characters from an interesting language to build on the look of the whole design. Native speakers will understand what this says like Oniko already commented

To the artist, thank you for revealing the meanings, I had already checked them myself, though. In the future, please be less rude when replying to a perfectly reasonable question. The design is attractive, but it would be just as atractive with a bunch of Japanese vulgaraties written on it, because, you are right, the Japanese characters are beautiful. Supported reluctantly, due to the attitude, because I do really like the shirt. Best of luck.

Thank you for the support needsnewbrain, I was not intending to give "attitude" with my response to the original question it simply escalated to that point, thanks for calling me out on it, being so straightforward and supporting my design.

Absolutely, I tend to be blunt to a fault, I just try to mix it with tact, lol. You've got some talent, and I am just waiting for this to print!

thanks for the support everyone, lets see if we can get more people recruited to get this design pushed through

Thank you very much for the great comment marzipanapple, you have made my day and made the time for all the other supporters to get their shirts even closer.

Little upsetting for some, but rewarding for others, the world gives and takes in equal amounts.
karma.

ha ha, now I do wish that you had enabled that trigger to pull and finish this design before more and more support drops :)

the_jcw does it again.
So many shirts of yours I want.
I hope to be able to support this next week, J!

This one just keeps falling everytime I visit here *n* I wantz it now
Posted by Mindmusic 288 days ago
it keeps falling, Mindmusic, when people support stuff and it needs to be resupported because they supported something else at the same time, and it printed before him. That being said, JCW and I have both been sitting in this position (exchanging places) for months.
People need to regularly come back to check out these pieces. If you supported them before, do it again. Don't just think it printed and you forgot, or just forget entirely.
